Action Research at Grassroots

In 1982-83 Dr. Azad conducted a series of 16 workshops for the Working Women's Forum, New Delhi with vegetable / flower / greens / cut piece / leaf plate traders / wire bag makers /bunk-shop keepers / Idly / meal shopkeepers etc.

In 1983 February she conducted eight workshops with 90 fish marketing women in Adiramapattinam village (Tanjore) and with landless dairywomen in Dindigul as part of an ILO project entitled, 'Identifying successful grassroots, initiatives for Rural Women’.  On issues such as the 'money lender, middlemen, heads of households, custody of earnings, consciousness female status' etc., Created participative workshop materials such as charts, role-plays, modules etc.

In 1982-83 conducted a socio-economic survey of micro-business women in the city of Madras with WWF members  (vegetable (400 respondents), fruit (175), Cut Piece (350), flower  (75), Green (70) sellers, Leaf Plate makers (30), Wire  ag Makers (60), Saree Traders (75), Fish Sellers (75), Dry Fish sellers (30), Dhobi Women (115), Bunk shopkeepers (100), Meal shopkeepers (40), and idli sellers (350) respondents on various issues ranging from income, business, decision making, organization, credit, technology, work site, profit to male income contribution, male employment, harassment in the market etc. for the Ford  Foundation, New Delhi.
