| Assignments with Government of India
Dr. Nandini Azad’s expertise has been highly acclaimed by the Government of India due to which she has been given several critical assignments.

She was invited by the Hon. Prime Minister as a Civil Society Activist to set up and head the first Program Outcome Monitoring Division in the Planning Commission, Government of India, The pioneering and first Report on “Converting Outlays to Outcomes” was First Consolidation of Outcome Responses from 65 Ministries / Departments in Government of India - an Outcome analysis of Govt. Departments. She won a commendation from The Honorable Prime Minister of India; Dr. Manmohan Singh (1st July, 2005) for this Report (enclosed) The position had privileges of a Senior Secretary to Government of India. For the first time “a Citizen” was invited to demonstrate systems for ensuring outcomes of Government budgets / monies in Independent India.

She became the Director General of Nehru Yuvak Kendra Sangathan, India’s (and Asia’s) largest youth program covering 2,50,000 youth clubs (36% of Indian population is youth). Organized mass awareness programs in fragile areas to combat divisive forces. (1992-93) and reserved 50% for adolescent non-student rural youth girls in programs (from poor families).

She was Member Secretary of the National Perspective Plan For Women in 1988-2000) Department of Women and Child Development, Government of India (The National Policy on Women for half a decade and under the Chairmanship of the Minister of State for Women & Child Development Consultant, to the Department of Women and Child Development, Human Resource Development Ministry, Government of India). Consultant to the National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (an Autonomous Body under the Department of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India) where
- she helped set up the first Clearinghouse for Women in Govt.
- 400 senior officials /Police officers were sensitized to Gender issues
- the Banking / Finance/ Industry Ministries - all mainstream Deptts. were liased with.
Whether it was sensitizing the Statistics Ministry to Women specific indicators (alongwith UNINSTRAW) or highlighting Women’s Perspective planning at UNDP Regional training for officials at Indonesia or UNIFEM’S program of transferring gender training to traditional Women’s organizations or speaking at AWID meeting in Washington (1987) on “influencing Governments Gender Planning strategies”, was indeed fulfilling for Dr. Azad.

She facilitated country to country regional networking on women - with the South Asian Region’s (SAARC) Technical Committee on Women and Development, preparing formats for WID guide books for the seven member countries; conducted gender training for Rural Development officials from SAARC countries; initiated a campaign on the girl child. (1986-88).

She was appointed Co-Chair of the Prime Minister’s Office to set up e-group on poor women and micro-finance Bank lending to informal sector group. (2002)
